岐阜県の南東部、木曽川の流れと山あいに抱かれた八百津町（やおつちょう）。
この町は、かつて周辺の複数の町村と合併を重ね、昭和30年代に現在の姿となりました。昭和30年1月に和知村を、同年2月に錦津村と新設合併、翌昭和31年9月には潮南村、福地村、久田見村を編入。これにより、町は6つの個性をもつエリアで構成される、多彩な表情をもった地域となりました。
